Supplemental Guide to Bay Area Radio

You can count on radio stations to change hands or formats sooner or later, so we cannot guarantee this directory is up-to-date at all times. See Bay Area Radio Airplay 2 for our compilation of real-time playlists (you may notice a slight delay when this page loads).

When we first published this radio guide in the early 2000s, more than a few music stations did not provide live streaming or a real-time playlist for financial and technical reasons. As these features have become the norm (though you may have to go to third-party sites for airplay archives in some cases), it’s no longer necessary to track their progress here. So let us know what differentiating Web factors we should document next (Facebook likes?).

Note that the most powerful radio stations’ frequencies are in boldface. The physical locations of the weakest radio stations are listed for your convenience. Also highlighted are the call letters of local commercial stations (for-profit operations based in California)—excluding translators, repeaters, and boosters.

Range: Maximum signal strength for clear reception; FM radio range largely determined by power and elevation of transmitter (based on Jeffrey Dingle’s “Essential Radio”):

S0: Under 10 miles
S1: 10-15 miles
S2: 15-25 miles
S3: 30-50 miles
S4: 50-80 miles
